Nutcracker School Performance December 2, 12:30 2005

The Central Wisconsin School of Ballet is excited to offer students and educators a SPECIAL school performance of The Nutcracker. This 75minute
performance includes all the excitement, enchantment, and fantasy of Clara and her magical gift -- the Nutcracker. Students will delight in the magic and spectacle of this production while experiencing the excitement of a live performance and learning more about the art of ballet.

The Nutcracker, a holiday classic about a young girl named Clara and her favorite Christmas. This year at the family's annual Christmas party, Clara receives a Nutcracker Doll from her mysterious and magical Godfather, Drosselmeier. After everyone has left and the family is asleep, Clara curiously slips downstairs to look at her Nutcracker doll. She eventually falls asleep, and with a little help from Drosselmeier's magic, her dream begins.

She's suddenly woken by life-size mice and their leader, the evil Mouse King, who try to take her to their kingdom. Clara looks everywhere for her Nutcracker, but is unable to find him. Suddenly, the Christmas tree grows to an enormous height and everything seems out of proportion. Soldiers appear, and behind them is the Nutcracker who has come to save Clara from the Mouse King. The soldiers and mice go to battle, and after an exhausting exchange, the Nutcracker defeats the Mouse King and Drosselmeier changes him into a handsome Nutcracker Prince.

The Nutcracker Prince takes Clara on a journey through the Land of the Snowflakes and Dreams where they are met by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Court. Clara does not want to leave her Prince and the Land of the Snowflakes and Dreams, but on Christmas Day she awakens surrounded by her family and the most magical holiday spirit.

Student tickets are $4.00 while teachers and chaperones are admitted free of charge. With your registration, you will receive a primer for the production, describing the choreography and narrative of the ballet, and a Teacher's Resource Guide, which describes the history and development of ballet.
