About Our Studio
The Central Wisconsin School of Ballet resides in the historic Mary Poor Chapel located in Wausau’s River District. We house three studios designed to meet the needs of beginners and professionals alike. We have invested in materials that provide the safest and most enjoyable learning environment, including: basket-weave sprung floors, a comprehensive certified Pilates studio, and a dance boutique.
In-Studio & Virtual Classes
The Central Wisconsin School of Ballet is committed to offering our community members the class options that best fit their needs. To that end, we offer both in-studio and virtual classes. Please see our schedule and contact us with your dance interests and needs.
Community Performances
Be a part of our nationally recognized and award-winning performances! Each year our students perform in The Nutcracker, which Newsweek magazine declared to be “one of the Nation’s nine most notable Nutcrackers.” Other performances include favorites such as our annual Thriller, Alice in Wonderland, and Carnival of the Animals.
Classes of All Levels
Children’s Program
Ages 1.5+
The goal of our Children’s Program is to encourage children’s natural joy of movement! Our classes include: creative movement, ballet, jazz, tap, and musical theatre.
Student Division
Ages 7+
Our Student Division classes formally introduce students to ballet and dance theater. Our classes include: ballet, jazz, contemporary, and musical theatre.
Open Dance
Ages 13+
Our open dance class is open to all teens and adults seeking the myriad of mind and body benefits that ballet and dance offers individuals of all ages.

Our 50-Year Dance Legacy
The Central Wisconsin School of Ballet has been a family-run dance school for over 50 years. When Madame Waltraud Karkar founded the School with husband, Dr. Jack Karkar, in 1969, their vision was to create the highest quality dance education facility in the region. Today, their son, Mr. Patrik Kasper, is committed to seeing their vision through.
